Live on the Kelly and Ryan show, Giovanna Andrews speaks about Harper’s Heart and the mission to create a loving, safe environment for mothers and mothers to be, and to help them gain access to essentials for their children.

“We say, ‘If you have a child, if you are pregnant, come out and be around some other moms and talk, and pick up some items you may need,’’’ said Andrews, whose day job is in digital media. “It is incredible stress to prepare for that baby when you are pregnant. You are aching: Do I have enough diapers stockpiled in the closet?”

“When I got pregnant, I thought that my life was over," says Giovanna. "I thought I had thrown away four-and-a-half years of schooling.”

Three Delaware public servants and a state school were honored recently for their good works in Washington, D.C., along with Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller and environmental advocate Avi Garbow.

With tears in her eyes after winning a Delaware Jefferson Award for public service Monday night, 23-year-old single mother Giovanna Andrews looked out into the crowd at The Queen and thanked her inspiration: her 14-month-old daughter Isabella.

Giovanna Andrews was in a tough spot as a young mother. She got help, and now wants to help others like herself.

Surrounded by cartons of baby formula and stacks of onesies, books, bibs and toys stacked neatly on tables for anyone to take, a smiling Giovanna Andrews bends down, opens a book and starts reading to a rapt toddler.

For Andrews, the effort is much more than filling a family’s need for their baby or toddler. “We want to inject a sense of hope for a better tomorrow. We want these families and young moms to know that even if they feel alone like I once did, they have someone rooting for them. It is so important to me as a mom to teach my daughter the value of giving, because when she was a tiny peanut in my belly, someone – a lot of people – loved her so much. So now it’s my turn to give back.”
